Divorce and Family
Christians understand divorce is never God’s best or desire. Often divorce is driven by a spouse who for years tried to make it work without any response from a partner. Or, broken trust has shattered the relationship from an affair or addiction. Randy would never counsel people to get a divorce. However, he knows from experience people will lose hope and heart, give up, and file for divorce. He knows it takes two to marry and one to divorce. Too often, once a spouse or couple gives up on counseling, the next stop is a lawyer. The other spouse obtains a lawyer, and the battle is on. How sad for two people who seek to reflect the glory of God to end up battling between each other. Most of the time, secular attorneys are used for the fight.
Randy chose the area of mediation for several reasons. First, he realizes from many years of counseling that people will divorce for a variety of reasons. Most people are left to seek a secular attorney who brings little in the form of grace or forgiveness to the arena. Randy wants to minister to people, even when they can be at their worst. A few couples might benefit from mediation to resolve issues that brought them to divorce. If children are involved, it is critical for parents to communicate and work together going forward.
Second, Randy wants to bring the presence of Christ to the legal field. He is constantly meeting others in the field with no relationship with Christ.
